A MURRAMBA DOWNS couple have presented his Building Buddy design/draughtsman Steve Sytsma with a unique set of challenges for their retirement home.
They want a four bedroom home for their retirement on a small, unusually shaped block.
And Steve is more than up to the challenge.
Steve says his client wanted his new home to be single storey, and ideally with four bedrooms or more.
“What added to the challenge was the odd shape of the block of land, and how small it was, relative to what our client wanted.”
To achieve sufficient internal floor space and to keep the front facade relatively square to the front boundary required working with difficult angles.

“The unusual combination of angles then creates a challenging complexity to the roofing,” said Steve.
“Also, the overall design has to comply with the estate’s covenant.”
Spaces in the home design had to be arranged to screen off an ugly electrical transformer.
After several iterations, Steve was able to achieve a home design that ticked all the boxes, and also satisfied all other estate covenant design constraints.
The client was happy with the result and proceeded to the next stage of custom home design and build process, which was fine-tuning using Building Buddy’s unique Cost-Planning technique.
